Oil Pump Seal CT1 was created by pabdt

So, am putting the CT1 together slowly.  Have new tubing and clamps for pump.  I guess I need to bench run it to check for leaks first.   But, I thought I read on this site that a guy removed the plastic wheel and parts flew out.   "We don't want that...".

In any case, I have a new seal ( #5 on partzilla ) and thought I would replace it.   Any recommendations?

That's an easy seal to replace. No parts will go flying on that side of the pump. Be sure to check the plug on the inside of that shaft. It can cause a leak and make you think it's the seal. Best to re-seal the complete pump. Not hard to do.

If your careful no parts will go flying taking the complete pump apart. Just watch when you remove the pump case cover because there are 2 tiny dowl pins and springs that can go flying if you remove the worm wheel gear from the distributor assy separately. Remove them together and the springs & pins won't go flying.

I've changed the seals in a few now and a top tip I picked up here on the forum is to place the pump inside a large clear plastic bag and do the strip down and assembly inside the bag.
Just means any parts that spring out stay within the bag.
