Today’ was actually the first day to work on the Lakewood Country Club, CA 1970 Gold DT1. For at least’ for a couple hours or more.  I must admit that there wasn’t too many crazy things going on. I’m going to be documenting for the customer. I will go ahead and copy and paste some of that here. The points were opening a little bit late. That was adjusted. The bike has good spark. Couple of cable adjustments and rerouting’ but really I’m surprised’ must’ve been my day. I’ll get back.. I have some pictures. Rear fender mount no rubber.

The funniest thing that I found today was 16D FRAMING NAILS cut down’ using them as seat hinge pins. Yup!

Nail(s) for the seat retaining pins...like they are impossible to find or something? It speaks volumes. The repro tank badges are better than nothing. Having only one OEM with flaking back-paint, about 15 years ago I improvised a better alternative/workaround. The "How To..." was originally posted on The Other Site, which I was active on for years (and do not know if the article...or the other site, since I see no commentary or references to it since 2013, still exists or not). Unfortunately, I got tired of constantly being knocked off the site because the administrator(s) could never figure out a way to deal with ISPs having "roving IP addresses", which seemed to be the crux of the issue. By the number of former member of that site I note here, I am not alone. Below I posted a few photos of those badges. What I did was trace out a original badge(s) on piece(s)of LEXAN. Next was to cut & grind them to shape. Then align the screw slots and drill them thru the LEXAN backing and "glue-on" YAMAHA heavy plasticised decal. Then do any final sanding or polishing to the LEXAN...but care must be taken with the decals not to grind them as the material is too soft. Happy to say, after 15 years and subject to winter & summer temps, the badges have withstood the test of time quite well...

"Nail(s) for the seat retaining pins...like they are impossible to find or something?"

They were hard to find here in the UK until fairly recently, when someone started making them.

When I was looking for these, the longest M5 clevis pin that I could find was 50mm, whereas the seat takes 55mm ones.

Yesterday’ I tried to copy and paste something and got an error message. I’m going to try it again. There may be something in the software that does not allow this to happen.

I've also been getting an error message lately when using the 'quote' button & adding my text then going submit. So have to start a separate reply. Think it's happened in other ways too when replying but not sure which now-till i do it wrong again. Writing comes up funny too but might be my computer. Actual think it said "cant submit an empty reply or quote, or something.

I think the point is Yamaha still sells the seat pins.  I didn't check CMSNL or UK Yamaha dealers but would be surprised if they didn't have them available?

I also get that the "Lakewood seller" has some...  ummmm...  less than perfect? ....bikes for sale.  But he also posts rambling descriptions that sound fairly honest if you ignore the flowery puffing.  I've seen ads where he describes the color isn't right or the electrical system isn't connected... or even that it doesn't run quite right.

Personally, I have more respect for "Lakewood" than I do for some of the high dollar purported "museum" bikes sold by other sellers on ebay.

grew up in Chicago and have a very good sense for a con... unless he sold these bikes with a gun and a ski mask my two cents says he's just another older gent trying to stay busy buying and selling these old bikes

The Yama-Work-Load has been tremendous. Never have I been so busy. The combination of 99 degree heat - a fan in a non air conditioned shop and a bad seller in Thailand has made love for Yama quite painful.

I’m closing down this thread.
Buyer Beware.

If I can’t copy and paste work activity - from my work sheet - it’s too much effort to retype the whole enchilada again.

If you purchase a bike any bike sort it out the best you can.
Waiting for the winter months. Hurry up and don’t be shy.
