I had a similar wheel. I wire brushed it the best I could. Then I brush painted it with black rustoleum. New rubber strip, tube, and tire. Haven't been in there since, so I can't say how it's held up over the years.

They looked good when you did them! I bought some wire brushes but didn’t seem to do much but I’ll keep grinding at it. Didn’t think about the paint tho

Mine, I used a brass wire cup brush on my cordless drill. Then I scrubbed with WD-40 and a Medium Steel Wool pad. I wiped them down, but didn't completely clean the WD-40 off. New rim strips, tubes and tires.

Took wire wheel to it and then applied a little oil to deter future rust. Dumb question now, I cant seem to find chain size in tech library. Does anyone know the chain specs?

I just put this chain on my '71 CT1, and if you have the stock sprockets I believe it will fit yours as well.

Oops, that may not fit the DT3. It looks like you need the Bikemaster 520H chain.

I also have tires and tubes coming this week, so I'll probably have to deal with the internal rim rust as well.

Just buy a chain that longer than spec incase sprockets are different to spec & knock a pin out to the length required after you've run it around the sprockets then you'll have a few links spare incase needed later if you go bigger on the rear. 520 chain of course for a 250.

I always put grease or petroleum jelly between the seal lips , and a smear of oil on the outer contact area , to aid install .
