Fuel tap repair kit was created by wayno

Is there a fuel tap repair kit for a dt400c available in the UK or is it piece by piece at yambits?

In a lot of cases, you can buy a whole new petcock for less than the repair parts.

Fill tank, close filler opening.
Remove hose from carb and place the end in a container.
Open up petcock valve.
Does at least 1 gallon of gas come pouring out in a strong stream? Yes? There is nothing wrong with your petcock.
Does at least 1 gallon of gas come pouring out in a strong stream? No? There is something wrong with your petcock.
Does the gas come out strong and then slows down to a trickle? Open up the filler cap. Does it resume strong? Repair vent.

If the petcock will let gas flow out smoothly, that is not the cause of your poor performance.

What do you call a strong stream? How long would you expect a gallon to take?

This is from "The Boonie Book" page 151 by Carl Shipman. He is discussing fuel filter flow rate, but it applies to petcock flow as well. There are 8 cups to a gallon. But you won't figure out that the cap vent doesn't work by only draining a cup.

How much can a DT400C use at full throttle? Good question. But if a DT400C uses 2 gallons per hour max, the peak might be 2 times that. A gallon in 10-15 minutes should be more than sufficient.

I think that a steady stream is subjective, but dripping would be obviously not be enough flow.

Will give it a go the weekend, all I can say for now is cap on or off doesn't make any difference to the flow, I'm thinking it's fuel flow as it has new 12v conversion, carb rebuilt. Starts lovely but under load at about 5k revs it bogs down/dies.

In my 35 years of messing with motorcycles I’ve experienced a few bad petcock issues. Leaking fuel, when turned off, is by far the biggest issue. This is almost always due to damaged or worn out gaskets/seals. Insufficient flow is usually due to crud in the tank plugging the screen, plugging the ports inside the tap or a plugged vent on the fuel cap. If you can drain a gallon of gas from your tank in under 15 minutes, it’s flowing enough fuel.
