Many people reference using power equipment compression release valves from chainsaws. Downside is they are short reach spark plugs.

I wonder about this myself, regarding a project I was working on. Could it be, the moto guys use short reach to ensure adequate clearance with the piston? Shorter reach would tend to keep the extended valve stem within the spark plug hole.

Sorry, I do not know where to purchase what you asked about.

I know something similar is fairly common used on Harleys. Don't know anything about thread size or depth. Just an idea.

This is what I use. Harley Davidson # 32076-04 with Alloy Art CRA-1.

You need to manually depress the button before each kick. Works well.

Thanks 1971DT250, good find

I see you can get an adapter and install the chainsaw decompression valves.

the cheap ones are for chain saws, $10-20.
The ones made for the 14mm spark plug holes are expensive. $100-$200.

This style is great for using a compression release for engine braking but useless as a starting aid. The previous units pictured are pop-off releases for engine starting and useless for compression braking. Two different types of releases.

The engine starting aids are generally not needed on 250 and smaller engines. The engine braking units can be used effectively on any size two stroke with two spark plug holes in the head.
