Hello to all! My first motorcycle experience came at age 14 when I stayed for a week with my great-aunt on her farm in Missouri.  In the barn, I spied a red Honda CT90.  “Can I ride that, auntie?””Do you know how to ride?”  “I can figure it out.”  “OK.  Be careful.”  So I was, but I was careful  all over that farm.  Hearing my stories when I returned, my amazing parents bought me a used Honda 90 scrambler. It was sold  later to fund the purchase  of a  beautiful green Yamaha 175 Enduro that had been ridden off of a trail into the ocean in California.  It survived as did the rider (my sister).   What an improvement in handling, comfort, balance and performance!  My brother rode it with his girlfriend on the back on a 600-mile plus trip when he was 18.  The summer of my 17th year, I commuted thirty miles a day on it from our country house to my first job in town.   There was no motorcycle endorsement needed to ride at that time.
At age 46, a friend sold me his 1985 Honda Goldwing for $200 on the ruse that he had a bad back.  In fact, his heart was failing.  I took the moto driving and written test, got my DL endorsement and rode it from New Mexico to Virginia and back on a work trip. It was an amazingly smooth and balanced machine.  My friend died sitting on his living room sofa while I was in Virginia.  I later sold the Goldwing to the son of a colleague for $200.  I had decided to stop riding until I had an income stream that would support my wife if I died on two wheels.
So, at nearly 70 years old, the moto-nostalgia bug bit me and I decided to buy a couple of vintage mini-bikes for the grandkids to ride, and a couple of full-sized, vintage small-bore bikes for adults.   One of them is a 1970 Yamaha AT1, which I’ve been enjoying a lot.
So far, I’ve replaced the crank seals, cleaned the carb, and adjusted the points, timing and clutch.   It has les than 3,000 miles on the clock and is in good original condition.
These days I ride on fair-weather days over back streets and country roads and just enjoy the breeze and the scenery.  The other day I rode in the countryside and enjoyed the most beautiful sunset on the way home.  I  saw three cows on the road during that ride and I’m happy to report that I saw fewer cars than cows.  I have an old friend who is dying in southern Florida. I plan to load the Enduro in my pickup, drive to visit him, unload the bike, and ride to Key West for some of that seafood and key lime pie.   Safe riding to you.
