1976 DT. 400 was created by Jake2020

Where does the the regulator rectifier mount on my 1976 DT 400.  It has one wire coming out -yellow with a white stripe.   I have heard it called a current limiter for the headlight

That part is just the voltage regulator - there is a separate rectifier.

If the exploded parts diagram on Partzilla is accurate (not guaranteed!), then it fits somewhere near the horn - look for the corresponding yellow/white wire with a female bullet connector coming out of the main harness.

GR8UNCLEAL Is partially correct as the regulator is separate from the rectifier, the voltage regulator on a 1976 U.S.A model DT400C is mounted on the air box housing

Thank you for this info. It makes more since that it would be around the Air box because the Yellow female connector is back there.
and I found no Yellow./white stripe in the headlight bundle. Do you know if it needs to be grounded to metal or not?
by the Horn could work if they had a place to plug in there.

thank you for that lead.  I thought it should be by the horn,  but I can't find the yellow female lead up there.   BUT I did find the yellow female back by the airbox/Oil Tank coming out of the harness there/   I will check Partzilla too .  there are basically NO markings on this regulator, just a stamped Mitsubishi logo.

Assuming no thick powder coating from a restoration, then the regulator should be earthed via it's attachment to the airbox, which is almost certainly not rubber mounted, so will be bolted direct to the frame.

The graphics have probably just been rubbed away over the years.

Pretty sure this is a pic of the regulator mount Yamaha added to airbox on the 76 DT400.

Someone could have replaced the airbox with an earlier version.

In any case, connect the reg wire to yellow and the regulator case must be grounded to frame.  On later bikes with plastic airbox, Yamaha ran a ground wire to one of the regulator mounting bolts.
