Hello!
I'm waiting for a Vape conversion for a '76 DT 400 and was wondering if anyone has ever posted the bulb part numbers to convert to 12 volts?
Napa?  Batteries plus Bulbs?
12 volt battery part number?

Thanks, ALL!

Bulbs are pretty easy to figure out as there's the electric start 125's and other Yamahas from that era that were 12v.

Amazon or a good auto parts store should have them.

I might have a list, I'll look.

Service manual and parts list should have the wattage of the bulbs and you can get them from an auto parts store, physical or online.

I would imagine that you'll need to change the flasher relay as well, assuming indicators are fitted - make sure that the wattage of the indicator bulbs is close to that shown on the flasher relay.

I noticed when looking at the fuses on my various bikes that, where single fuses are fitted (as opposed to a fuse board fitted to the slightly late models), the bikes with 12v systems had 20 amp fuses, and those with 6v systems had 10 amp fuses. Wait for others to comment, but I wonder if the fuse needs uprating to 20 amp?

Fuses are rated to protect components.  For example, a 16 gauge wire can normally handle about 18 amps.  So to keep a circuit powered by a single 16 gauge wire from melting the power wire, you'd use a fuse rating less than 18 amps to protect that wire.

Amps are amps and doubling the voltage from 6v to 12v actually halves the amps.  So when going to 12v from 6v you could actually use half the fuse rating and still be okay if you stayed with stock wattage bulbs.

P.S. The reason the 12v "single fuse" models have a higher amp fuse is because they also have a 12v battery ignition running off that fuse which can draw about 5 amps or more.  Magneto (6v) models do not have this draw.

Sylvania 1141 for turn signals, same bulb front and rear. They appear stock. I can't tell the difference. OReilly Auto

Sylvania 1891 instruments. (though I think this bulb is a little taller than I wanted). Autozone;

LF1-S-PIN 2 Pin turn signal flasher. (recommended by Makotosun in separate thread) Amazon. Works EXCELLENT. Good till 150W. $7!! Let me simplify things. I mounted mine under tank. It needs 12v and the other side flashes on/off.

Found a 5-3/4 on ebay for headlamp. I ended up w/H4 LED. worked w/stock wiring has high and low beam.

according to VAPE can use a 6 or 12v horn.

Tail light and instrument bulbs can be obtained for a 74 DT125A through partzilla.

No regulator needed. VAPE handles that.

1156 on turn signals. 1157 13 cents on rockauto and 56 less than .50. If you need something for your car like a belt their prices are great when you learn to work the shipping.
