Not just cross threaded so if it starts off crooked it just keeps getting worse. Observe how central it is as you start threading it in. If looks straight then see if it wanders off from parallel as you go further. Bit of an unusual situation but with vintage bikes there's always something new. That's the fun of it--umm, I think.
