DT250B exhaust / muffler tail pipe question

Hi all, recently required a 1975 250B which has a 360A engine and trying to find out what tailpipes will fit. I see on some that the tube which enters the front part of the exhaust have "squashed" part which looks like it might curly around the shocks. On others the tube does not have this flattened part.

Does anyone know if teh parts are interchangable?
Also if a 1974 360 muffler will fit a 75 250B. It looks like it will, but not sure if it has to have the flattened part.

Looking forward to posting some pics ones it done and finished!
Cheers!

Welcome. I hope someone can help you but i have a feeling you'll be telling us in the end.
Tis fun mixing & matching parts though, but better if you have welding & heating gear.
Oxy acetylene got too expensive down here in NZ to have sitting mostly idle for occasional use. Was good when i was working, just do all that at work for no cost.
If you want to load pics-we love pics--they have to come via something like 'Imgur' or similar. I use google photos but just end up with a link, which does the job.

I have two 250Bs in my barn along with two 360As, so if someone doesn’t confirm your interchangeability question, then I will head out to the barn and try a swap for you this weekend.

Thanks for the responses.
From what I can see they look like they can be swapped over. I think I will buy one and try it... worst case is I might need to carry out some mods to make it fit.

@SCHU, if you could confirm that would be awesome.

Sorry I didn't get to it over the weekend. The two fiddy is on my lift right now and I have the 360 exhaust hanging from the rafters. I will check if the 360 silencer fits on the 250 and report back this evening.

Which muffler/tailpipe fits might depend on which main exhaust pipe you have mated to the 360a engine.. Is it the 250b pipe or the 360a pipe?

Good point.
My swap test will only be good for checking the 360 silencer fit on to a 250 exhaust.
Both of my 360s have Bassani pipes on them, so I cannot check 250 silencer fit on to a 360.

Replied by treeves on topic DT250B exhaust / muffler tail pipe question

I did put a 250 silencer on my 360 exhaust. I also have a Bassani on my Dt 360.

Not sure what the main exhaust is - its how it came to me unfortunately. I have seen the same front exhaust advertised for the 250 and 360. Think I am just going to have to bite the bullet - my only option here is a 360 muffler. Am going to have to make it fit!

The question is not as much about "250 or 360" as it is "1974 or 1975".  Yamaha generally used the same exhaust for similar models like the 125-175 or 250-360 (-400) in a given model year or model series.  But changes were made from year to year sometimes.

The 1974 models were a complete redesign...  some of the parts are "one year only" and unique to 1974.  I'm not sure if the frame mounts for the exhaust and/or muffler components were changed significantly between 1974 and 1975-76?  Part numbers of exhaust and frame are unique for 1974...  but frame looks like it might supercede to the later version so might be okay.   Unless Yamaha changed proportions of exhaust or something...   then you might need a muffler matching your main pipe.

The main exhaust should have a part number stamped in it for ID...  usually on the "belly" someplace.
