Hi all,

I‘m rebuilding a spare motor for my DT 400 Type 513. currently I‘m a little bit confused about the clutch basket, I tried a basket from a DT 250 Type 512 but it does not fit with the primary drive - which has 24 teeth (should be correct) and which I bought on EBay.
The primary drive from a DT 250 type 512 has 23 teeth and the spares number for the clutch basket (correct: Primary Driven Gear Comp.) are different between DT 400 and DT 250. Could be that I have to use a clutch basket from a DT 400?
Here in Germany some guy mentioned it has something to do with the clutch gear wheel and the Primary gear which have been „married“ as a pair when the bike was build at Yamaha - there is always a number written / welded in on both wheels by hand. The clutch baskets should fit for both types…
How to go on?

DT250 and DT400 of that era have different primary gear ratios.

DT250 is 23/65
DT400 is 24/64

So you cannot use a DT250 clutch gear on a DT400 as it has one more tooth and would be too big.

RT325, I'm not aware of the crank stub differences, if any...  (I doubt there are any).  So I don't see why you couldn't use both gears from a 250 on a 400?

That‘s what I was thinking of for a moment - to look for a primary drive from a DT 250. Transmission will be little different due to the one tooth I guess.
At least I ordered a used DT 400 clutch basket in the US on EBay.com - to stay at the original build. Here inGermany the old twinshock DT‘s are very seldom…
