I used to love uncrating new bikes and building them up. The smaller Yams like SR125s, RT100s and PW80s came two to a crate, so we could only ever order them from Yamaha two at a time.

That was also my job to uncrate and put together the bikes when I worked at Butler’s the best part was servicing the RD and XS650 and riding them

I agree on the uncrating of the bikes, I worked at a Kawasaki dealer in the early 80’s we got to uncrate the newest & fastest bikes of that time period 1983 & 1984 GPZ1100, 1984 & 1985 GPZ750 Turbo, 1985 Ninja 900’s after we assembled them which basically consisted of putting the front wheel on we would take them out and run them as hard as we could. That GPZ750 Turbo was one of the few times a bike scared me, scary fast! Also uncrated in 1985 KXT250 Tecate three wheeler’s, I bought a 1983 GPZ100 & 1985 Tecate, and a 1985 KX250 but never lost sight of my first bikes the Yamaha DT’s, those were the days.

Sorry if i derailed the original post KOSMO.
Great stories & memories though, thanks.
ps, we sold Honda too & the very first CB750 was an eye opener. I went pillion with the older guy who assembled it & we cruised around town for a lap.

Yeah pic doesn't show the workshop roller door that looked the same but at 'this' end of the building.
But through the wall was Hallensteins Menswear Shop. Wouldn't happen these days haha.
Cleaning farm bikes in the gutter on the street. Waving around the wand of a Kerrick Steamin Deamon useless little old hot water blaster as old ladies emerge out of the steam going past on the footpath.
Can't believe we did all that looking back.
Carrying my bloody heavy BSA B33 complete motor out the main door at 2 in the morning & next minit cops are pinning me to the boot of my car.
Alo alo alo what av we here haha. Well, had to have it running by morning, then too stuffed to ride it lol.

No worries about derailing I'm enjoying the reminiscing! Awesome pic!
Went an ordered the shifter cover today, 60$ CAD, not too shabby. It's the 18$ o-ring that goes with it that stung a bit. Unfortunately they did not have the shims....which I have confirmed are missing...but the parts guy slipped me a note with the number of a dealer in Ohio that has 4 of them so I will be calling tomorrow. Apparently they are not allowed to send customers to other locations...but I appreciate that he did since eBay shipping costs on those shims are three times what the shim costs...

No luck on the shims.
Would anyone happen to know the thickness of that shim?
The person that last worked on this engine left one of them in, so I know it's a 12mm x 20mm...but I can't tell if the 0.9mm thickness I am reading off it is just worn down from 1mm. Pretty sure I have more than 1mm of lateral slop anyway lol.

Yamaha still sells the shims. Partzilla and RMATV-MC have them in stock. Your dealer should be able to order or you can get them online.
