Most of us hate electrical issues just take a deep breath and google electrical symbols so you understand the basics and follow MarkT suggestions you can do this

Thanks Ht1kid,
MarkT has helped me tremendously as have the rest of you guys . I was reading a post from DEET saying the frame needs a clean tight connection to the engine ,not sure if that applies to my 74 dt250a, i never cleaned the new powdercoat at engine mounts only the threads on the secondary coil mount , the handlebar mounts and tree where handlebars clamp had no powdercoat on them I was thinking if I can remove a front engine mount bracket and get a good metal to metal connection if it may help
thanks for your words of encouragement
John

Wouldn't the engine be grounded to the frame via the new harness being connected at the secondary coil frame mount through the black wire with the ring connector from the main harness an somehow making it back to the stator which is screwed to the crankcase ? I have to be over thinking this ?

Use an ohmmeter and check for resistance between the engine case and the bare metal of the frame.
it should be less than 1 ohm.
If it is not a dead short, either remove the powder coating from the engine-to-frame mounts or make a ground wire to connect the frame to the engine.

Somewhere back a page [& i can't find it now] i thought i saw you said switch Off said 00 & on said 1. If i 'did' see that i'd think that's back to front & should say 1 when off to short the ignition & kill the spark. Just ignore this if wrong.

Would that indicate I have something backwards with the wires somewhere?

I'm going to check again in the morning to make sure I didn't have what I said backwards but I'm pretty sure that's what happened when I switched on and off on the key and the kill switches , my brother said the same thing you said when I explained it to him
