Morley, you about have it right. I'm wondering if I don't have the connections to the tail light backwards, it's an aftermarket replacement and the color coding of the wires don't match the stock wires. I'll have to check that later.

Well I disconnected the taillight and the issue with the test light is gone but I still don't have any power to lights, signals or horn. After I take a mental brake I'll go over the wiring again.

Thanks Wes!  I will probably get back on it this weekend.  Plan is to start over in the headlight bucket, I think that's where the problem is.  So darn many wires crammed into a small space!  At least it has spark so I know it'll run

Without getting too deep--be careful of your light brown & dark brown.
Light brown [without looking] is battery live after the switch heading off anywhere dc is needed.
Dark brown is blinker to one side [or other] & to one side of the blinker bulb in tacho or wherever it sits. 'That bulb should also have a dark green to other side of bulb.

thanks Morley! I think I'm going to try my grounds first, maybe add a wire from my ground points to the negative side of the battery - make sense?

Main loom earths at the coil by memory, not that it has to but that's where they usualy put it.
Motor needs to earth too but never a problem with tight engine bolts. Mind you, engine being tight--or not-- wouldn't affect dc stuff from working.
I keep forgetting you're running a vape so 12 volt.

Wouldn't do any harm to try 'that' running a new earth from battery to the loom earth point.
Would varify if the loom earth is faulty within--i think--think i think. Just do a continuity test through the black from the terminal at the coil ground/loom ground wire & back to the battery black plug in connection. Earths can be bad news if faulty & it'll try all sorts of tricks to find an earth through bulbs & stuff.

Maybe remove the headlight bucket and then do a "dry run" assembly of the wires without it - you'll have a lot more light and space to see what's what.

Thanks Morley and Alan, good suggestions. I did paint the frame and probably did get too much paint in the bolt holes so running a ground from negative side of battery to main harness ground should tell me that.
