1975 DT400 project find was created by Clegg
I found a DT400 on FB and picked it up on Sunday.
The owner said it had no spark but kicked over with compression. I didn't check it over too much and brought it home.
After removing the left cover I see the FOTO 2173 flywheel (rotor) but no wiring. Removed the flywheel and the whole stator plate was missing. I've placed an order with Rex's for their 12v ignition setup so I can start with new components and not have to set timing.
I will review the ignition system when I receive it.

I guess you asked him if the stator was lying around in the shed. Bit of shame or she mighta been running already.
If the decomp is working the compression will feel a bit soft anyway so might be all good to go.

You will have to set timing initially just like a stock setup so if you don't have a dial indicator I'd get one now while you're waiting for the kit to arrive.

Rex's stator plate is not slotted. It screws on with the 3 screws and that's it. Their website advertises bolt on and no timing setting.
I do have a dial indicator and setup for timing 2 strokes.

I don't really know anything about Rex's setup but I had to time my Vape 12v conversion, the stater is slotted. I guess Rex figured out how to get their parts set for perfect timing, if that's the case then yeah it will make installation much easier!

Sounds like you need to set the piston at recommended position btdc then bolt up the flywheel super tight with no key after aligning it with a stator mark. I'm guessing but--never seen one.
Ok i went googling & see you need to use your original flywheel. Lucky you have 'that'.

That's what I thought too Morley, hence the need for a dial indicator...

Yes Morley the Vape (which is what I put on my DT400C), does come with a new flywheel and you have to line up the marks on both stator and flywheel when timing it. The stator is slotted so it does make it easier to do so since you only have to get it close them move the stator to match up the marks, I figured that out after a bit of frustration trying to get them lined up then tightened down and stay lined up... Ok, I'm not too bright LOL

Ok thanks. So does the vape use the crank key then seeing the plate moves. I guess ya saying no key on vape either. Just thought if the plate moves the flywheel could be key'd & safe. Sorry not a bright night for me lol. I'm outa here.
