Points plate rebuild was created by pjwand2001@yahoo.com

Hello there! I am putting together a points plate for 1976 DT175C and have a couple questions. Due to conflicting ‘advice’ I am coming to you guys for hopefully the correct information! At this point I am sure that there are two wires soldered to the condenser, the lead wire from the points and the black wire from the source coil. That leaves me with one more wire…..the black wire from the wiring harness. Where on earth does that go?? The condenser as well?  Someone told me to couple the black wires together and put them on the points breaker (which I’m almost absolutely sure is wrong). I don’t need technicalities or reasoning, at this point, please just tell me where to put the wire from the harness, which I would assume is also a ground wire. Thanks

If I’m reading this correctly the black wire from the harness goes to the coil under the gas tank. Pictures would help to clarify also look in the tech library for a manual

Thanks……figured it out. Yes, you are correct. But, I was asking about the ‘loose’ wire from the lighting coil harness down in the points plate. It attaches to the black wire from the source coil and is soldered to the condenser along with the lead wire from the points. Ultimately there are three wires at the points plate that all get soldered to the condenser. I had conflicting advice before I talked to the right person. I have a very nice spark….ready for my new carb!!!

I'm guessing the loose wire has a female connector & is just there as a convenient way to check the point of opening for the ignition points. Yes it ends up at the points/source/condenser & just branches off the black heading up to the plug coil--or black heads up there via the rest of the loom & switch etc unless like me you want to short cut it straight to the plug coil [not recomended, but i have no loom]. Ok, i might have to pull my head in as thought we were talking DT1 [no hope for me] but your mag will still have a black taking source/points/condenser up the loom to the main loom. Don't earth that black or you'll end up with no spark. If you find a black/white in the loom i think its to short the black via the switch to kill the spark [ignition switch off] But might be T'd in at the plug coil where black ends up.
