DT250A, kicksstart spring was created by Jewelkutter
Hello Everyone, I've started the engine disassembly, condition was unknown , top end removed still at standard bore and not bad for wear. clutch removed, springs needed replace but plates still good.
In the process of inspecting the Kick start assembly , I was able to remove it and looking in where it came out of, I notice the spring inside the crankcase . Just to the left of center in the hole, I notice a piece of metal that appears to have been worn , this is my first Yamaha DT250A and I'm learning , I wasn't planning on splitting the case the rod feels good on the crank and rotation is smooth . Just wondering now if that sharply ground thing I'm looking at is a big cause for concern ? I put a pic in here for all to see and maybe get some advice.
thank you
john

If i remember correctly those have the spring internally in a 'tin can'. It's preloaded in tension & hooked behind a tab on the tin can. So for assembling--if the shaft came out with the spring located behind the tab--then you insert the shaft & locate the spring ear, then turn it & push to get the shaft behind the stop plate, which keeps the spring under tension & ready to go. I'd better go looking at pics now i've spouted off lol as might be wrong. Bottom line 'is', what you're describing might be the 'tab in the can'. Ebay 373945383098 shows the parts & the tab if you look closely through the pics. Direct ebay link doesn't work on here for me. & now typing the number in on ebay doesn't come up either so i don't know. Just google image DT250A Kick start parts.

Thank you RT , I did look last night at some assemblies on eBay and I see the " tin can" and the spring . That little flat piece of metal attached to the can is what has the wear , like it was grinding against the Kick shaft? Or its made that way ? It must be a normal thing because the ones I looked at had the same. Thanks again
