74 DT125C only have spark when coil is connected directly to battery. was created by CrazyTrain
74 DT125C only has spark when I directly connect the battery to the coil by unplugging the brown wire coming off of the Ignition Coil, and plugging it into the red wire that comes off the power cable that goes to the starter switch assembly. When I do this I get a nice thick blue spark. If I have it wired up normally I get no spark. I am using a AT125 wiring harness from a 73 125, and I have all the electricals disconnected except for my ignition key, dynamo, condenser, coil, and voltage regulator. I am making a stripped dirt bike build, so i don't need all the extra switches and lights.

Not that it matters much but it's likely a 1974 DT125A or a 1976 DT125C. There are some differences
Other than that I don't really understand what you're saying. Condenser is next to points and connects to points. Orange wire from points goes to - side of ignition coil. No red wire near points/condenser that I can think of.
+ side of ignition coil needs battery power to get spark. So with key on wire on + side of coil should have 12v. If you are jumping a red wire from battery to + side of coil it sounds like maybe blown fuse, broken wire, or bad key switch? Hard to say. But it's not high tech electronics or anything so should be able to figure it out pretty easy.

Ah yes, sorry I meant the starter switch assembly thats right next to the ignition coil. I made my own on/off switch to replace my key, and thats not working. I did use a key ignition from a seperate bike but idk if it works or not. I will take a key switch off of another dt125 I have and see if she works.
