DT 400 C Stand was created by Andy_C

When I bought the bike the angle of lean was ridiculous.

One of the first things I did was to take the stand off, squeeze the "fork" end of the stand back together and bend the frame tab back to where I think it should be.

Guessng that over the years previous owners have started it on the sidestand - on all my mikes I never kick them over when on the stand doing this is a sure way of bending the stand.

The angle is not too bad now, but in my opinion still too much.

So what do I do?

Leave it as it is, bend the frame tab a bit more, or weld a short extension into the stand?

Mine leans over pretty far too. Doesn't seem too bad if I pull up the sagging front forks. Some have put an extension on their stands. I never thought of bending the frame tab.

400 was more top heavy. Leaned over more than other models from new. More lean was more stable when on kickstand. I have 4 different models of 1975 Dts, 125, 175, 250, & 400. 400 leans over more than all others.

Sounds like the angle of lean is pretty much as expected then.

Mine used to lean over a lot - I got a welder to cut the plate off, straighten and weld back on, it stands perfect now.

I believe its from mis-use, ie where people leave the stand down to kick start the bike, putting a lot of unnecessary weight on to the bracket, hence it gradually bends over the years.

I added one inch to the kickstands on my RT3 regular riders. They sit up a little higher with the Redwing KM-S340 rear shocks and Pirelli MT43 tires.

Also the frame tabs on these have been known to break or bend if you stand on the foot pegs with the kick stand down.

Mine developed a crack that almost went all the way up, I have a welder so it was no problem to get it where I wanted it and weld it up. I am guilty of standing on the pegs when I kick it over but in my defense I'm not really tall so standing on the pegs allows me to get a good kick on it.
