Hi all, I have a 1976 DT 400 C . Looking to do a 12 volt upgrade because my CDI module is out of spec. Wondering which kit I should go with? Would like to delete battery, I've looked at the Vape and Rex's. Any experiences or suggestions Please!

I installed the Vape 12v conversion kit on my 76 DT400, love it. was not difficult to install, the bike starts easy and runs great (or did until the big end rod bearing went out), the price is right and shipping from Europe was fast and cheap. I've heard some people had issues with Rex's so that's why I went with Vape.

I fitted a Rex's to my 400C.
No problems, easy to fit, starts / runs perfectly.
They do a version that does not need the battery, but I went for the battery option.

You can do a search but what I've seen is that some of the connections are made for European bikes and are not quite the same as US models, also support is lacking from what I've read. I sent an e-mail out to Vape, they returned it the next day...

There was one wire in my Rexs conversion that was in the wrong position in the connector, solution was simple, move it to the correct position.
I called Rex's about this and the guy I spoke to was very helpful, but then again I am based in the UK.
The kit comes with comprehensive fitting instructions - easy to follow, easy to do.

It is my understanding that the Rex conversation fits UK model DT400s (B and C) without any issues. If the bike is a USA model, there needs to be a link inserted in one of the connectors, otherwise the battery doesn’t get charged. Simple job. Search the forum for details of the mod required.

Do a forum search to research issues. The wiring jumper is needed on B models and is not really an issue.

Mine is a 400 C USA Spec, no need to jump anything just re locate one of the wires in the connector in the Rex's loom. Think it was the green wire.
Charges just fine.
