DT400 B & C Differences was created by Andy_C

Sorry if this is a dumb question - but I am still getting to know these bikes.

What is the difference between a 400 B and 400 C?

Why cant I find a service manual for a 400 C - does the 400 B manual cover it.

Sorry to have to ask.

From the tech side, likely the same, but wait for others to confirm.

Paint/graphics might have been a smidge different.

Yes, graphics are different on tanks and exhaust.

1976 has a voltage regulator from the factory.

That's all I can think of offhand.

I could be wrong, but is the front engine mount on the 1975 DT400 B welded to the frame and the 1976 DT400C has a small plate that bolts to the frame and engine on the right side?  Or does the 75 have the separate plate too?  I only have a 76 to check.

Here is the picture from partzilla, that looks like the 75 has the plate too.

The main and pilot jets are different sizes for the 1975 & 1976 year models, other than that and what other’s have mentioned I think that is about it.

"Here is the picture from partzilla, that looks like the 75 has the plate too."

Good point.

Also possible that such changes were made during a model's production run, but maybe only a Service Bulletin would give specific details.

As I mentioned previously, neither the Partzilla nor the CMSNL computerised parts listings are complete, so it would be good if you could find an original parts manual for your model.

I believe the triple clamp bolt heads that hold the fork are larger on the 75 than the 76 and they are chromed on the 75 but not the 76. Also tank decals are longer near the gas cap on 76. Oil tank decal is different and exhaust emblem is different too.

The Tech Library has both owner's manuals... The wiring diagram for the 400c with voltage regulator is in the back of the 400c owner's manual..

Small thing but the 75 rear turn signal brackets were chrome. The 76 were black. The others have covered everything I can think of.
