Happy Saturday everyone,I have a 1974 DT175a that came to me with missing teeth on the kick pinion gear. I was unable to find the pieces so I'm getting ready to split the cases. When flushing it out I found some of the pinion gear pieces along with a small torsion spring, what appears to be small needle bearings, and a few pieces of what appears to be from a compression spring.  looking through the parts diagrams and service manual I cannot for the life of me see anything that would match these pieces. I'm attaching a link to google photos while we are unable to post in the forum. Does anyone have any thoughts on what these might be? Please let me know if you are unable to view the photo and I'll try to attach it elsewhere. photos.app.goo.gl/4fM42SYQPwL6H4QG7

Thanks,

One piece definitely looks like a small heavy wire extension spring?

I can't think of anything in the trans area that the spring parts could have come from.

There's needle rollers in the bearing in the case behind the idler gear & there an extension spring holding the roller arm onto the selector drum pins. Doesn't really look like that though, or the spring doesn't. If the rollers a chewed from being through the trans teeth then there's be up & down play in the output shaft at the idler gear. Sabotage--someone dropped them in. Certainly hope not.

Thanks guys,

Once I split the cases, I found a crack that goes from the kick shaft all the way up to the shift cam. What we are thinking is the spring (or whatever it was) entered through into the oil fill and lodged between the kick gear and the kick pinion gear, then someone tried to force kick it, breaking teeth on both gears and cracking the case. So at this point it does look like sabotage, or at the very least a catastrophic mistake.
