1974 DT125A won`t rev past 3grand was created by RT325

Page looks a bit strange so not sure what i'm meant to be answering but i'll go with the running fine the suddenly isn't. My first guess is something jumping around in the exhaust & got stuck in the spark arrestor or somewhere that's strangling the exhaust gases from escaping. Sorry if i'm lost in this post & replying wrong.

Very confusing.  Why does title say won't rev past 3 grand?  But then you say it runs fine until battery runs low?

Problem solved right there.  You need a good battery for the 12v generator/starter model.  If battery runs low, it won't run right and then won't run at all.

Manuals in Tech Library have GREAT troubleshooting for the generator system.  Look at the earlier AT1 manuals too, sometimes they have more details.  Same wiring and operation was used from 1969-76 on the 125 generator/starter.

Just check maintenance (worn out brushes is common) and then follow the troubleshooting steps in order and you'll find the problem.

Explain the Bad please. Just flat & no power or misfiring. Revs limited etc. Crank key compromised--not there or broken in place which woul give you a false inpression of timing if going by the marks. Are you holding the advance open to set it at 1.8 btdc. Sorry if its all been covered. I'm just thinking out loud.

Yes to all your questions....... I`m thinking a bad condenser? I have a spare .It will not let you go past three grand immediately chokes out to the point of stalling but not quite. Even put a hot plug in it thinking plug was fouled,Because that`s how it runs ,like a fouled spark plug

So battery voltage is fine now when engine is running and revved to 3000?  Low battery is a common reason for ignition/misfiring issues on the 12v gen models as was indicated in your first (now deleted) post.

If you have a condenser swap it.  Very easy on that model.

Sounded like problem started when it was wired incorrectly and battery was drained.   Now wiring is fixed and problem still there.  I'd be checking voltage with a voltmeter with engine running and revved up.You could have some kind of short when a relay kicks in or something.
