I replaced the front brake light switch on my bike a couple of days ago and when I was done the bike would not start. Starter does not work and won't seem to do anything on the kick starter either. All the lights wok when you turn the key on though. Can't figure out hat I may have messed up, just took the headlight out unplugged brake light switch fed new wires in and plugged back in. Thought maybe I left the headlight n or something hooked the batery u to the charger and let it get full charge and still nothing. Any ideas?

No left it in gear, you'd soon know kicking it i guess. Blown fuse would stop everything. I'm stumped. Easy problems can be the hardest to solve sometimes.

Off-run switch by throttle didn't get shut off or disconnected?

Hi Srsnow. Although I'm not specifically familiar with the electrical wiring on a 74 DT125 I would expect like pretty much all trail type road legal bikes it has wiring on the right hand side handle grip for the front brake switch and engine kill switch.  These wires run into the headlight bowl 'birds nest' of wires and connections and it would be very easy to mix up the connections. I'd suggest you retrace your wiring and double check your connections as you might have inadvertently swapped something over. Further 'proof' of this could be achieved by physically disconnecting BOTH the front brake switch AND the kill switch wiring together.  If she starts then you've found your problem. If she still doesn't then I'd suspect when you delved into the headlight bowl you might have accidentally shorted something down to earth. Double check the condition of wire sheathing and the state of the big rubber grommet that protects wires from the sharp edge of the headlight bowl access hole.  A final check could be loose 'unused' male/female bomb connectors that have maybe lost their clear plastic coverings and can therefore earth down via the bowl etc. Anyway hope this helps and I wish you well with solving your electrical gremlins. P.S. Remember with the kill switch disconnected if the bike runs but has to be stopped quickly you still have the key switch available to stop her.

Handlebar kill switch on a 74 DT125 (12v electric start model...  starter was mentioned) must be connected...  not disconnected like a magneto model.

I check the kill switch it is to the on position, I don't think I hooked the wires up wrong since once I replaced the switch the brake light started to work. I tried with the kick stand up, in neutral and with the clutch in and nothing. Now there were two wires in the headlamp not hooked up when I took the headlight out, but it looks like they have never been hooked up as the were both male connectors I could not see a corresponding female plug for them to go in.
