Oil pump questions (lots)

Most pumps for sale that I've seen are the ones where someone simply removed the two mounting bolts and took pump off.

Shaft is not included as it's still inside the engine or who knows where.  Maybe things have changed.

Many different pitches on the internal shaft - it’s best to get them as a matched set if at all
possible …

You would need to measure the pitch on each part.

Well I picked up a couple of pumps. When they get here I will check them over and then see if they are what I need. I picked up the 360 case with a pump on it and will start from there. Thanks for all ideas and such. I will move forward with finding cables and such as well as anything needed to get it on there.

I would imagine cables are fairly easy to find for that model . Partzilla and Rocky Mountain ATV would be my first port of call if i were in the US. I can confirm what happens if the scroll is wrong. It smashes the oil pump driven gear into several pieces. You would know instantly too by the way . Your bike looks pretty good .

I appreciate all the help and pointers. When I was growing up these bikes were a dime a dozen and could be had for cheap. Now it seems finding all the goods and having a nice bike is quite the challenge but still doable. Good times and glad to have it to play with.

You're not joking Dragonknee. People are trying to have every ones eyes out but it's going to come to an end soon.
I see bikes sticking because they're too expensive . There is no way on Gods earth would i pay £8K for an RT3!
That's why it's been for sale for months.

Unfortunately so many DT's are sitting in garages or back yards rotting and others hoard the parts and make it hard to restore the bikes. In the 80's they were everywhere and easy to buy and ride. Oh well all we can do is just keep plugging along and doing what we can.

As SHYTED said it will all come to an end soon, that end is when our generation of us that are between probably 50-80 years old are gone. We grew up on these bikes or always wanted one as a kid, there were plenty of them around then, the first Yamaha enduro I bought was a used 1975 DT400 in 1975 for $300.00 dollars, once that age group is gone not many people will have an interest in these old Yamaha’s.

After your generation is gone, my generation isnt going to lose interest in the stuff that makes us feel connected to our fathers. Rather a longing for the things that do bring back that feeling and memory of our dads will keep interest alive.

But dont count on it going past my generation. The zoomer generation doesnt have an interest in anything without a 3"x5" screen attached to it.

(i guess you have to watch it on youtube, owner turned off embedding) is a pretty detailed teardown/rebuild of the pump, explains everyaspect of the thing, but it is in japanese. Auto-translate subs to english works very well though if you turn on show transcripts.
