Rex's Speedshop conversion DT 400 - 1976 was created by Andy_C
After taking the flywheel off my previousley running DT400 to clean out all the corrosion, it very quickly ceased to run, so rather than mess around trying to breathe life back into corroded components, even though cleaned up, I decided to fit a Rex's Speedshop ignition and 12v conversion.
It all arrived very quickly, instructions were easy to follow, and fitting easy.
The only "problems" I had was that one of the wires from the stator in the conversion was in the "wrong" place, so simply a case of changing it over (according to Rex's there are so many variants of wiring looms they dont always get it right), and the battery was being charged at 20 to 25 volts, easily fixed by adding an earth wire to the engine and then taking it to a common earth point - as recommended by Rex's.
After fitting the conversion it started 2nd kick, and first kick when hot, it idles perfectly, lights etc also work perfectly.
No sign of any kickbacks or difficult starting.
I have no relationship to Rex's speed shop, all I am saying is that from my experience if you are thinking of fitting one their kits, dont hesitate.
I'll probably put the old CDI on E-Bay as no point in hanging onto it.

Sounds great. Would you be interested in selling your original stator coil components? I am still crazy enough to try and keep my original ignition working.

How much was the kit and have you got a link?
Mine feels like the timing has moved again as I’m losing top end revs and it’s not revving as freely.

Buggin - you are welcome to the stator / backplate and ignition sensor - the only thing missing is the source coil which I binned. Happy to send it to you for the price of postage. Are you in the UK?
