Wiring from scratch was created by DT-Steve985
Hi all,
Has anyone got a wiring diagram for a 74 DTa? Also will there be any major differences due to it running a CT1 engine.
Mine is currently wired up without a battery so the lights only work when the engine is running.
Over winter when I strip the bike and go through her I want to rewire and fit a battery.
Hopefully if I manage to find all the parts I will replace the horn, indicators and lights but I’m still trying to find the switches etc.
if anyone can help with the diagram it would be greatly appreciated.

Tech Library here has factory manuals with diagrams.
Not sure what you have ... "DTa"? Did you mean DT125a? If originally a 12v electric start model it might be easiest to get a CT harness.

Hi Mark,
Yes it’s a DT125a with a CT1 engine therefore no electric start. I am happy making a loom just need the diagram to build it as it’s the charging side I’m not 100% on.
I will look through the tech library.
Thanks for your help.

Steve, in case you didn't know on a CT1 the taillight, brake light, neutral light indicators and horn all work without engine running.
The headlight and instrument lights only run with engine running.
Appreciate you don't have a battery at the moment.
How does your existing wiring look? do you think it has original loom modified or a CT1 or similar loom?

I probably have a CT or similar harness if you want one for a starting point. Including the correct ignition switch which is the key component to the charging system "switching" due to the split AC/DC systems that run in parallel on the magneto bikes.
The e-start 12v model is primarily DC battery powered so original harness not very useful with the magneto.
For a diagram, any of the "magneto" models can be used... 175/250/360... they are all very similar.

Pete,
there isn’t really a loom on it, it’s been modified, I’ve currently just tidied it up to make it safe and look tidy.
thats the reason I’m after a diagram as I was just going to make a loom myself.
I’m actually also thinking about an electronic ignition system to get rid of the points.

Mark,
Message me with a price etc for the loom, it may be a great starting point however I have the barrel and key but would definitely be interested.

If your key switch is for the 12v electric start 125, it won't be suitable at all for a magneto bike.
First step is to decide what you're going to do. VAPE makes a nice modern CDI 12v system that could be used fairly easily with the harness you have already... as long as you use a key switch from say a later DT175 (4 wire).
If staying with earlier magneto charging system, it's a balanced output dual/parallel AC and DC system that uses a 10 wire or so ignition switch to select the correct stator coils depending on lights on or off.

Mark as always thank you.
I thought it was going to be a simple job as I want to put indicators etc back on it therefore need to run a battery.
with the magneto pushing 12v I thought bing bang bosh, lol.
I’ve just reset the timing and she flys again, I think I need a new flywheel woodruff key.
