DT400B Twin Shock - tank sticker query was created by Jammyyammy
Hi all,
I assumed the fuel tank on my DT400B twin shock had the original paint job and stickers on it.
Do you think these stickers are original? If you look closely, you will see a join/overlap.
Thanks…

I don't know about your decals Phil, but your DT certainly looks good next to the Red Devil and the reluctant pooch

Have they been lacquered/clearcoated over or, if you felt so inclined, could you just peel them off? I believe that factory stickers were not coated over with anything. Therefore if they've been coated over, then not factory original.

My 1976 looks the same (just alot crappier than yours). I don't think mine has been redone.

My DT400B was purchased from the original owner and the tank is definitely the original finish and it has the same overlap. So do my others of the same year.

Thanks for all the responses. I’m 99% convinced my stickers are original.
However, it does seem that they have been clear coated over (that’s the 1%!) - See post #3 from Gr8uncleal

I believe that is an original style installation. Looks too nice and shiny for original paint, though. A street rod shop painted my DT400 C tank and yes the correct and high quality decals look original. The repop decals require a clearcoat, according to their installation instructions. Not made from the same stuff apparently and may not hold up to Sun and abrasion without clear coat. Mine overlap like yours. Nice bike!

My 76 DT400 had the same overlap on the decals, it deff was the original tank ( full of pin holes )
