DT400B Twin Shock - dodgy ‘lights’ switch was created by Jammyyammy
Hi all,
I just noticed my rear light wasn’t on when the ‘Lights’ switch was switched to the ‘On’ position.
I traced it to the switch being a bit dodgy. Sometimes the rear light comes on, sometimes it doesn’t. Not great. I haven’t delved in yet, so not too sure if it’s dirty contacts or worn components.
So what’s the fix here?
Should I spray WD40 on it or proper ‘Contact cleaner’?
Should I take the switch apart? Can you buy new replacement switches (the internal switch itself, not the whole complete assembly).
Any advice greatly received…

Caig Deoxit sprayed in switch and cycle a few times.
Or carefully disassemble and clean.

When I recently had various lights going off and on, and then going out completely, it turned out to be a wire (red) underneath the ignition switch had come loose. I removed the switch and resoldered the wire to its terminal, and it's all fine now.

Thanks to all,
I used some WD40 contact cleaner. Inferior to the Caig Deoxit, but more readily available over here (uk). It seems to have done the trick. The problem has disappeared and the switches (I did all of them while I was in there) feel much smoother.
That’s a relief. I thought I may have had to start deconstructing the switch…
