I've always used an impact wrench to remove, but never to install. Wadded up rag between gears on crank and basket then torque wrench to tighten.

I've been reading so many threads of people having problems with wedges and different methods. I'm beginning to think I'm just going to hold my clutch basket with a strap wrench and hit both the primary nut and the clutch nut with my cordless impact gun, with a little blue Permatex on the thread. Not even worriy about torque specs. I've read people using a strap wrench while using a torque wrench, and it ends up breaking the strap wrench.
I found a picture of a Yamaha manual where they say to use a little aluminum wedge, but I'm just not a fan of sticking metal into gears, even if it's a soft metal.

I wonder how many people miss that there's a tiny little O ring in a groove on the right hand drive shaft, that goes under the spacer? I've seen that there's a Yamaha part number for this, but I think I'll just go to an auto parts store and try to match it up.

I wonder what that O-ring is made of? Is it silicone, or vitron? From what I'm reading, you can't use neoprene or nitrile. I guess I'll have to order one that's OEM, because I don't want to take this thing apart again by putting the wrong o-ring in there and having it fail under the heat and other conditions.

I scrounged around in my garage, and I think I found a perfect tool to press the seals in with... a 1 1/2" OD sink drain tailpiece. The seal fits perfectly on it, with enough flange on the outside that it will stop the seal from pushing in too far.
