DT360A fine-tuning was created by msavitt

Last Xmas eve day I melted a hole thru my piston due to a variety of new guy mistakes.  Then I rebuilt it back to stock with the help of this group.  I have put 2,000 miles on bike and I prefer to ride this than my twin turbo sedan.  Jetting is completely stock, so is ignition .  My goal was to try to tweak jetting without modifying engine which is fresh and stock.  I experimented with needle position and when I raise it up a groove richer from spot 3 the 4 stroking goes way down, but it feels more blubbery.  So I put needle back to stock and upped the #50 pilot to a #55 that someone had mentioned and this ended up being the best set up...way less 4 stroking, much better idle when cold and hot.  But to get the idle nice and smooth I had to take air screw out 1 and 11/16ths with the #55, versus 1 and 7/16th to get the #50 to idle okay.  So my question is, with a richer #55 pilot jet does it make sense that I had to let more air in by backing out the air screw ~3/16th of a turn more than the ~1.5 turns with the stock #50?
