DT400 Petrol E10 was created by hatrick1960

Thinking about playing around with removing the Ethanol from the E10 / E5 petrol as you shouldn't run this stuff in the DT.

Couple of questions - after doing this should I or do I need to add some Octane booster to the petrol? if yes how much?

Has anyone else attempted this?

Thanks

do you have a factional distillation tower or are you planning to use olives to remove the ethanol?

Actually all you need is plain water, a good shake, and then a way to let the water settle out so you can drain it off.  And/or a water separator filter of some kind.

Unfortunately the alcohol does increase the octane rating but I don't know how much.  You can approximate the loss of octane if you know the percentage methanol you started with and the octane rating of methanol.  Someone out there probably has an on-line calculator.

The problem with octane boost is most are not very effective and some are actually mostly alcohol.

i considered doing this but decided buying race fuel is easier and cheaper (and far more shelf-stable) for what I need it for.

Here in Canada, Shell used to state on their website that their highest grade gasoline contained 0% ethanol.  I tried finding it online and it no longer states that but it comes up in the google search. I hope they did not change the actual fuel.  I have been using it in all of my small engines with good results.  No issues storing over winter/summer.

A friend of mine who is into boats told me that that the gasoline sold at marinas is ethanol free.  I have never looked into it myself but it makes sense for marine applications as the ethanol has a tendency to absorb water.

Loads of videos on you tube on how to do it.

Looks pretty simple and straight forward - definitely worth a shot, better than running E10 in an old bike.
