Where are you getting that pipe from, turbodan?

A member of the forum. I don't know if he wants to deal with inquiries so I'll let him chime in if he wants to put his name on it.

No problem. Looks like a nice pipe anyway.

I'm really impressed that this thing was fabricated as a one-off prototype in a different state, shipped to me and it fits right up. Perfectly. Didn't have to beat clearance into it with a hammer, didn't have to file any fins. Remarkable.

Power is exceptional, first gear lifts the wheel as high as I am comfortable with and it will carry that wheelie through at least third gear if I want it to. It rolls over right at 7k as the builder and I had discussed. I think part of the reliability issue with the SC originally was due to the radical port timing and pipe design. It will happily rev to 8500+ and make power doing it, but this will blow that 95mm piston into bits before long. Wanted to get that under control and it was accomplished.

Plug looks great and it seems perfectly happy with the overall state of tune.

Video coming soon. Was too busy ripping and grinning on the test ride.

It looks to me like there's signs of detonation on that plug.

None that I heard, and you can't miss it with the SC.

If you're referring to the specks on the insulator I would feel comfortable ascribing them to ordinary combustion deposits. I'll certainly keep an eye on things as I continue testing and tuning. It's been through several pulls so far, enough to blue the first segments of the head pipe, with no harm done.

The blued metal would scare me, but that's me, and I don't know much. Is that considered ok?

To be expected with an unfinished pipe. I love the hues you get from hot steel. That deep blue occurs at around 570F, which really isn't too alarming. Four stroke head pipes get far hotter.

On the more modern MX bikes with good suspension you can ride them hard enough to blue the pipe all the way back toward the belly, which itself turns to a golden color.

Pipe was made by akara1 BTW.  He didn't mind being credited.

I've personally never had a bare metal pipe, so I was kinda in the 4 stroke line of thinking.  I guess 570 degrees is way less than I thought.

And nice exhaust, akara1. If you ever see this, and are interested, I have a 71 rt1mx that I'd like to design a pipe for. Unsure where to even begin looking.
