Mikuni VM30 carb (new) in 74 DT360? was created by Roland Wheeler
Hi Vintage Yamaha Enduro fans,
Has anyone done this? I bought the carb and will make the fairly simple mods to make it fit. But has anyone tried it? Much larger slide and airbox intake than the stock carb, but it slides right into the manifold.
Please let me know your experience with this!
Thanks!

Would have thought a DT360A would run a 32mm carb but happy to be corrected. Nothing wrong with going smaller if you wanted to though. Maybe i'm on the wrong track & just guessing VM30 means 30mm. Have an old school 32mm off an RT1 on my DT1-250.

Yeah, uses a stock 30mm Mikuni. I'm gong to machine the carb cap on the mill tomorrow at work to fit the throttle cable. The tube from the air filter fits right up against the carb intake fairly nicely so a nice piece of electrical tape will seal it and no one notice the difference.
I'll let you know how it goes, but hope someone on the forum has already gone this route

ok. edited my post above as meant 32 not 34. Good luck with your mods, should work out good.

Several people have swapped carbs, have to do a search. At least one was specifically DT360

Hi Guys,
So the swap required me to not only machine the top cap, but also to shorten the long adjuster nut on the cable by about 3/8".
The carb works fine but will require a bit of tuning/ rejecting to get it spot on. Added a pic of the install which came out nice. Will wrap a strip of electrical tape around the airbox tube to carb inlet joint. Right now it is hard to tell it is not a stock install, but the carb is much larger.

Umm, ok, that's a different take on the air boot i'd not thought off--but why not. Just be careful its not compromising the air jets in the mouth of the carb otherwise all good.
Just a thought though that tape might not like being near fuel although i guess not directly. Could stretch a bit of pushbike tube over it if you could do it all together at the moment of inserting the air boot in there.

Great idea on that tube! Thought about an inner tube but figured they would be too big. I'll look into it.
I don't think the intakes are compromised as it is almost the same diameter as the carb inlet. But yes, that concerned me when I first did it.

Yes was just the airjets to the needle jet & pilot jet, not the inlet size itself. You'll be good if its not blocking them. Choke air inlet is more out of the way higher up.
