Back fires while trying to start was created by Patroll330

My 1975 DT125 B 12volt system backfires when tring to start. Its like it starts up or it will backfire and won't start . The spark looks good but shuts off occasionally and hard to start back. Replaced the points, condenser, and new brushes for the 12 volt generator.  Could the coil or does the 12 volt generator/starter system a CDI IGNITOR All help appreciated.

Did you set the timing correctly?

Well, if it was a magneto system i'd be thinking the flywheel locating key had broken. Hold that thought as i guess it's still possible on an armature system. Have you had the armature off just prior to this happening. Is the advance points cam located in place. If the spark disappears occasionally then--don't know sorry.

I own a 1975 DT125B  American 12 volt/generator/starter no magneto.

My ct3 would do this if I switched the key on the 3rd position (lights)
Earth problem or bad coil. 
New vape ignition sorted it..
