Muffler on the end is as important if not more-so than the main pipe. Hope you've done that too. Gotta be flaming hot to get the carbon to burn out. Also you need the motor mount bolts super tight to minimize vibration. That's the most important thing. On my older model 360 i oversized the 8mm mount bolts to 3/8 inch high tensile. Gotta be careful doing that as something i did it on, "maybe not my 360", i struck a dowel in the middle that mucked up that plan. or might've been trying to go to 10mm but settled on 3/8 in the end. The DT360A had the cavity for the ballancer the MX runs. Be good if they'd incorporated that in the trail bike as worked good.

Msavitt, make sure you cook the chicken first

I had visions of a new business...  "Two Stroke Chicken Shack"...  choice of Yamalube or CastrolR flavor.

Peak HP is around 6500 stock. Torque is already falling off by that point, HP peaks right before torque drops off so quickly that spinning the engine faster produces less overall power output. You could clean out the pipe and spark arrester but I suspect you're getting all you're supposed to be getting out of it.

A bigger reed block, carb and a proper pipe would help tremendously, even with stock porting. For all the work I've done I've never raised the exhaust port. There is plenty of top end in there as it is. It can rev higher with porting but I'd rather have the torque.

Great information Turbodan. When you say there is plenty of top end in there are you refering to rpm or mph? Thanks
My bike is doing just what you wrote and if loss of torque is a result of higher revs I think I'll mildly tune it and keep the torque :)

Both really. Top end power makes top speed. With more power you can pull taller gearing and more top speed without exceeding the stock redline.

You won't make power much past 7000 without raising the exhaust port somewhat, regardless of the pipe. These big singles are slinging a pretty heavy piston around so I feel better keeping the revs down and trying to make the most of the power from 3-7k.

I think she's good, sounds like this design drops off over 6K, above which is not very enjoyable anyhow
and i can get my 250 lbs up to 70 mph, with more to go but for fear of death!
I will cook the muffler after my next cookout and take the tool box off to see if i can perceive a difference.
thanks for all the input

Run103’s tool tray/air intake cork payed off big time!

I took tool tray off and the bike is way quicker at all speed and pulls up to 6500 (which I am not into for health of bike and me) and the chug chug at no / low loads is nearly gone. Also gone is the howling air sound that I now know comes from the very small passage that the tool box tray makes as an intake labyrinth which I recon is ~3/8” for the perimeter of the trapezoid which means an effective area of about 5” x 3/8” or leas than 2 square inches that is further exacerbated by multiple 180 degree turns.

omg this change was unbelievable, anyone with a dt360 you got to ditch the tool tray.
