DT/MX 400 build was created by Dt4004mph

A couple years ago I was talked into building a bike for the Ironman GNCC race. Vintage with a price limit ! I have a friend who owns a motorcycle salvage yard. He insisted on finding me a bike to build. He came up with a 1976 DT 400. The bike was missing the rear wheel, seat, carb, and ignition. Once I couldn't talk him out of the bike I started to do research on Dt 400's. I found this site and began reading up . I saw that a MX 400 top end would go on. My friend mentioned that he had one of those ,but in really rough shape  ! He was able to get the top end off and it was on the original bore! Although needing a fresh bore.
Unfortunately I am a few states away from my buddies shop,so I had to have him look for parts ,and send me pictures. We ended up with a 1981 RM 125 front end ,the 1975 MX 400 top end,and a Dt 125 gas tank. I had a 1986 cr 250 rear wheel that has a Sun rim a SS spokes. He came out to my place a month or so later with all this stuff . He also brought two swingarms to try. I aquired a 1976 RM 250 seat. and a FMF fatty pipe off of a 2002 RM 250. I started the build and decided to make a new back half of the frame to make use of the seat ,and to get more suspension travel. I used chromemolly tubing. The chain to the swingarm if the limiting factor on travel. I shorten the travel on the forks to match the rear. I originally used a swingarm from a XT 600 . Later I made a new swingarm from chromemolly rectangel tubing. I was surprised how easy it was to make the FMF pipe fit. I had to make a silencer though ! One of the cool things were the footpegs. I water jetted the pieces and welded them to the original pivot part from the stock pegs. I raced the Ironman and was actually leading my class until the gas vaper locked from the gas cap not venting. I didn't figure it out until later. I welded a tube to the top of the tank for a vent. Problem solved !

A buddy of mine was going to buy this bike for vintage hare scrambles. His wife wouldn't let him spend the money !! I have been on the road lately. I was wondering if anyone on here would be interested ?
