Hi all, I have installed a Vape Powerdynamo ignition system. I have spark but cannot get the bike to even snort when I put the plug in. tried to drop some gas into the plug hole. nothing. Take the plug out lay it against the engine, spark. I have done the timing procedure a hundred times and nothing..kick kick kick...I am about done with this..nothing makes sense.. gas is flowing to the motor..dripping out the front of the pipe connection from all of the kicking..

Sorry I can't be of any help but hope someone helps or you can figure it out and post it here. I ordered the vape kit for my 76 DT400 a few days ago so I'm very interested in how this turns out, hopefully it's just something minor.

Have you swapped spark plugs to see if it's failing under compression?

Its gotta be. I get spark but cant get it light in the cylinder. It must be the way I am trying to time it. I am not using a gauge, I am using a steal 6" ruler dropping through the spark plug hole to find BTDC. It is hard for me to believe that I am so far off that I cant get a snort out of it. Fresh gas is flowing through a clean carb and there is spark.

I have tried a different plug but I am not sure that one quite right for this. It sparks but the results are the same. It is a Bosh with 4 prongs...Came out of another project.. The size is the same but I have never seen a plug like that before.

Since you may not be able to set an accurate BTDC due to equipment on hand, maybe aim for TDC. That should be close enough to fire after the cylinder has been "aired out" and a dry plug is used. Finding a resonably close TDC should be fairly easy by finding the two points each side of TDC, making a mark for each on the flywheel then using the mid point as TDC.

I did buy a gauge to do mine, just need to figure it out. I used one many years ago when I helped a friend setup gears in his jeep but that one read in SAE, the one I have is metric but I think I have it figured out, will check with a mechanic friend to be sure.

Should run from what you're describing setting timing etc. But what specs do they say for timing?. Maybe strobe it by kicking with plug out but sitting on the head except be careful of fuel, & see if it is close to your btdc setting. I'm guessing about 3mm btdc for a 250. was confusing myself looking at ya name 'mx360guy'--but ok we're talking dt250 trail bike.
Another thing--you say fuel into the exhaust i think. Is it just totally flooded up & needs a tow with the car. Working kill switch or escape route if it all goes wrong.
