Need help with coil lighting assembly for dt175 was created by Appel1978
Hello all this is my first post and am excited to be apart of your community! I dug my old 1975 Dt175 out of my mother's basement (my first bike couldn't believe she still had it) needed a LOT of work but I'm fully restoring. And one of the last the last things I need is one of the hardest to find. The wiring coming from the magneto is cut right outside the case. I found an entire coil lighting assembly (only one) but they want $250. All I need is the the wiring. Or at least split into the wiring and finish it and add connectors. Can I just continue the wires from the cut section and run them to the plug the should go to or is it more complicated than that. The pic here shows the item being sold that I can't bring myself to pay that much for. In the pic there seems to be some rectangular black box attached to external wiring. What is that and do I need it. Or if someone wants to sell me one that would be great!

A picture of what you have will help the guys with real knowledge help you.
If your current coils etc. are intact, then extending the cut wires sound like a good plan.
I'm sure DEET on this forum would be able to help refurbishing your existing setup.

At the bottom of the pic next to the yellow wire? That's a grommet that seals water from entering the flywheel/mag cavity.
It's tedious work, but you could definitely splice new wires to the existing ones. Stator would have to be out, and the splicing needs to be in the flywheel side, not after that sealing grommet outside the case. Can't use butt connectors, no room, so you'll need to determine a small crimp device to hold the wires, solder the crimp joint, then seal with heat shrink. You can buy wire in various colors from an good Auto Parts store. Hopefully the grommet is still there? You could probably fashion one from one of the OE grommets for fenders/battery box, search on ebay DT175 grommet.
I've successfully done this repair a few times. Again, tedious, need to put thought into what you're doing, but 100% doable.

I do still have the grommet in the motor. What's that black rectangular piece that's taped to the side of the wire in the picture though is that some kind of resistor it looks like there's 2 bullet connections out each end. Is that factory

It's a diode to prevent engine from starting backwards. Not required.

If anyone needs one, DEET sells these for the 250s & 360s - see link for details, but probably easier (and cheaper?) to contact him as per Pete's earlier post. I might need one for my UK RD250E, but at the moment I can't justify the post for just the one item!

This is what mine currently looks like. And if someone can give a diagram or explain the wiring for the assembly and where each wire goes. The the colors match directly up to where they should go to the main harness. And does anyone sell the correct plug pin/shape that attaches to main harness

I make the harness, but you would have to use the old grommet. No one makes the grommet with 4 holes in it.
You could use a generic grommet, but you would have to silicone seal the gap.
