I have a dt360 and it has the same exact stator and cdignition as a 75-76 Dt400. In the parts manuals and service manuals on this site it shows a different picture and different number for the cdbox for the 360. Not really sure what is going on with the manuals but I do know the 360 works best with the DT400 components. The cdbox numbers are F8T00171 dt360 and F8T00172 foor the 400. A friend was trying to trouble shoot a reverse running 360 and after he switched to the 172 cdbox all the problems were fixed ???

It looks like Yamaha replaced the DT360 CDI with the DT400 part at some point in the past. Now they show the 172 box for both applications. I have no idea what the differences are between them, though the 171 box is potted in a clear epoxy like substance and the 172 uses a different, black filler.

Sometimes manufacturers do this to provide an improved replacement part for an original item. It is possible that the original DT360 box was prone to certain issues and the 172 box addresses them. I did just order a 172 for my DT360, we'll see if it does anything different.
