Premix or Autolube in newly rebuilt DT360A?

As mentioned in another thread Hondarider has done a great job rebuilding my '74 DT360A engine. The Autolube pump was hard to get off, so he left it on.

How likely is it that the Autolube pump could go bad? I know it's 46 years old, so should we just premix or try running the oil pump?

And for premix, what is the best ratio of oil to gas? You can see in the previous video that it's running but the carb needs rebuilding.

Thanks for any info as always.

Just curious, especially about the premix ratio.

Hi - i am curious why you couldn't remove the oil pump with a simple whack of an impact driver? I have same bike and once I bled pump and adjusted it, it worked fine and had it not i would have rebuilt it. It is a clever gadgit, as the output is tied to both RPMs and throttle position so it takes into account engine speed and load. Personally i would use it vs premix so you aren't burning oil necessary to keep engine from blowing up at full speed at an idle.

just an opinion, nothing more, i like my little pump!

Keep the pump the only weak link in the pump is the cable running to it. Even if it breaks it will feed enough oil to save the motor from serious damage
