74 DT250 ignition parts was created by Zeph

Hey guys, I'm considering picking up a very neglected 250, haven't seen it yet, but am told it is missing the CDI and coil, I know the coil isn't a huge deal, but how rare is the CDI? Thanks

1974 DT250A had points, not CDI, so a good thing that it's missing!:ROFLOL

note the orange zip ties that’s the CDI box
Gotta say when I had points I could never get the damn thing kicked over now I can pull her out of the garage right now kick her twice and she’ll fire right up... my bike isn’t a show piece by any means lol

Nothing wrong at all with the Yamaha points magneto... spark may actually be better than CDI... the points systems are far more reliable in my experience... and if something goes wrong with points you can fix them... CDI leaves you guessing.

I've seen several CDI's that test perfect, spark strong, but bike won't run right... probably why some of Yamaha CDI troubleshooting process was "replace with known good".
