Tachometer cable was created by Doug5657
Why is a tachometer cable for a 1974 DT250 or 360 so hard to find? I have looked everywhere, even ordered one from great britain, and when I got it, it was way too short. Ebay has one for two hundred dollars, but that is crazy.

74-76 should be the same... maybe even an earlier one would work?

If DEET isn't able to help, you can also try Motion Pro. They can make cables and they do offer the speedometer cable.

Just wanted to add that the one that was way too short was probably for a 77-on monoshock... called "MX" in Europe.
The earlier 250/360/400 twin shock engines like yours (and earlier) had the tach drive at the rear of the engine.
The later 250/400 monoshock engines had the tach drive in the front of the clutch cover like the 125/175's had.

Thanks for the replies. Yes that is the problem, cables seem to be available for the front tach drive, but the 74 model like I have, and I think 75 and 76 have the drive at rear of engine. The one that I ordered from Britain was advertised as 1974 DT250A twin shock. It was eight inches too short. Had not heard of deet. Will try them.

I sold my last 438 labeled cable.
I have another unlabeled cable that looks similar. Tell me the overall length of the housing and I will see if it is a match.

IF,you have the old cable, contact Motion Pro.
What they will need is the fitting that fits the engine side case.
They will salvage that for the build. I sent the whole cable not knowing what was needed.
They did a beautiful job for $55.00. Price might be more since mine was done in 2015, IDK.
It has worked flawlessly & is very O.E. in appearance.
Good Luck
