HI Guys, it as been some time since i posted. Been working on some Huskys and Generators. Anyway, I'm starting to look for a tank for the two 1975 DT400s I've got, the two I have are rotted pretty badly. Will an aluminum MX400 or 250 tank fit? And does anyone have something that is in reasonable condition that they might part with? A couple of pics. Thanks Chris

AS far as "fit" the 74-76 the 250/360/400 DT and MX tanks should all fit just fine. Some of the YZ tanks may, but I have not tested them.

Are they all the same size? And shape? I just want one in aluminum that is the right shape so it will look like a original steel tank, but won't rust out. Thanks Chris

They are all very similar, with the 74 having a unique flip up gas cap.

For aluminum, you’ll want the 75 MX or possibly one of the YZ if they fit. Note the Aluminum tanks use a male-thread screw in cap unlike the enduros. It is the same cap used on the 77-78 DT 250/400 models. There is a cool billet cap available aftermarket for these tanks as well. The steel MX360 also uses this cap.

Thanks for the 411 Mako, I bought a couple of 75 mx tanks off ebay. A 400 and a 250.Nice caps, I'll probably get a couple. Sounds like they will do the trick for these scooters. I forgot i have a thread for these "1975 DT400 rebuild". I'll start posting on that thread for the rest of the build. If you could move this to that thread, Thanks Chris

The MX has a screw in gas cap and not to sure it will fit! remember the MX has the mono shock running under tank 75 MX was first mono shock bike

I've owned more Huskys then any other past dirt bikes, loved them.

I haven't brought the dt400 out of storage yet, so when i do I'll check the fitment. By the looks of them next to a steel tank i think they will be close enough. Yeah I can't lay off the old Huskys, got 6 ! In the middle of a 71 enduro 360c 8 speed now. Takes about 2 yrs to turn a destroyed bike into what you see there. Thanks for the compliment. Chris

Hi,
I found a spotless MX250 tank in the US on eBay, it did need a little alteration to my DT400 frame as it didn't quite fit, I had to drill out the spot welds on the locating mounts for the rubbers on the frame and move them slightly and re-weld, anyhoo no more rotted tank worries and it looks great now I've sprayed and applied the decals.

Nice, Igot a couple of those tanks too, sightly dented but easier to fix than the steel ones. Looks very good. Thanks Chris
