I have the opportunity to purchase this for $500.  He said he hasn't started it in a few years and when it was running it wasn't charging the battery.  He also said that the electric start either doesn't work or wouldn't start the bike.
I am just curious if anyone thinks that it is worth it.

I say get it because it’s all there in good shape
but expect another $500 in repairs.  

Could be simple as a battery too.  Just make sure compression is good though they are easy to rebuild.

I have a 1975 DT125B and the electric start only works once it’s been ridden for a while. It just cranks too slow to start from cold. But it will kick start on the first or second swat. And you do need a fairly decent battery or it won’t run. Unlike all my other bikes that run without a battery.

what battery are you using? I see a sealed agm with 125cca.

I’m out of town right now so I can’t check the exact part number, but it is a Deka brand and it is simply your basic flooded type 12V battery. I would go with something better if you really want to use the electric start. Mine works fine once the engine has been run and it’s warmed up. But it just doesn’t crank fast enough for a cold start.

More often than not its in need of brushes.
They work until the spring tension arms bottom out & unlikely all 4 would go like that together.
Hope it's that simple though.
Could jump it from your car just to see if a good battery helps with starting & charging, but will need a good battery to fit the bike in the end.

thanks guys. I have the carb off cleaning it and am charging the battery to see if it is any good.
The guy I got it from said that the starter would not start it but it would kick start, he also said that he thought the starter wasn't turning it fast enough due to the battery being no good or not being charged properly.

Hey SCHU, the air filter and the cage (I think that it should have one) that the filter goes over are missing. I can find the filter but do not see any cages that it would go on to help support it. Do i need one and if so do you know where I may get one?
