Update. After replacing points and condensers and even buying a stator on line, I read that resitor spark plugs are no good for these engines. I bought NGK B8ES from 2 difffernet vendors claiming to be the right plugs, and each came with the letter "R" on them. So, I found another vendor and made sure they were B8ES with no "R".

2 bikes with weak/intermittent spark. New plugs, both started on first kick!!!

I believe the resister plug is fine as long as you use a non resistor cap but others can confirm. Such a bummer NGK stopped offering the B8ES and other heat range models of that plug. 

I've used a resistor plug with a resistor cap and it ran fine. I got a non resistor cap and used a resistor plug and it had a brilliant blue spark. Also ran fine. Non resistor cap makes it easier to get compatible plugs.
