RT3 engine in DT2MX chassis was created by thumperstew
Anyone ever swap an earlier DT1-3 or RT3 engine into a 72 DT2MX chassis? Does the DT2MX handle significantly better than the "enduro" chassis? Looking for a better handling Enduro/scrambler. Original DT2MX engine getting worn out. Have a either 73 RT3 or earlier DT1.

They'll all bolt in ok & dt2mx frame was taller, maybe call it lower but clearance for the over the top exhaust. I'd fix up the original motor. Love that motor. Had one new in "72.

I saw an article regarding the modifying the early DT1/RT1 frame-cutting/adding spacers to lower the engine. Also read the 72 DT2/DT2MX comparison article. The DT2MX is at .75mm piston OS. It's original points ignition went to a 73 MX360(bad CDI unit). Put a stock DT1 ignition- on, so it doesn't rev as easily. Leaning toward a 73 RT3 engine since the the 69 DT1 is fairly complete, .25mm os engine. Try to see if others have DT2MX lighted enduro. Thanks

Ok, RT3 engine has fatal rust in transmission so this isn't happening. Noticed something unusual regarding RT3 frame. Appears it has the 2" spacer modification and a modified 68/69 DT1 swingarm. Will be parting soon.

If you can make pics load via an external provider it'd be great to see photos. Keen to see this 2inch spacer mod you mention.

Thanks for the pics, can see the frame mods & Swingarm mod.
I'm in NZ & i never did the frame mod but did the swinging arm mod on mine & my bosses GYT kited DT1's.
Memories aye--where'd we be without them.
Might have a pic of mine where the arm mod can be seen from back in the day.
Here's mine below. Not a very good pic but the welds on the axle mounts are clear to see.
