1972 Yamaha CT 2 Carburetor was created by mpritch41

So I need a new Carb for my CT 2...the OEM is a mikuni vm 24 sh. It has a short body in order to connect to the airbox.
the only flange fit carb I can find is a vm 20-273.
It is the exact size of the OEM except its a 20mm intake instead of 24mm.
Does anyone have any experience with this...will the bike run ok ?

    Thanks,

            mp

I haven't tried it but I have a vm20 in hand and I noticed that the ct's plastic intake manifold only covers the outer half of the o-ring gasket on the the carb. If I were to try I would use a thicker than stock o-ring.

Presumably you've tried fleabay? Used ones turn up regularly - sometimes advertised correctly, sometimes not!

What's wrong with your original carb?

Worst case I'd say get a spigot to flange mount adapter for a VM24 and use a uni filter on it. But like Mark hinted at, few oem carbs are beyond a basic cleaning.

Actually I was curious because of a few things...  one is that the stock carbs are by far the easiest solution, two is that not too many are actually "bad", and three is that I have some miscellaneous AT/CT reed valve carb parts like bodies and float bowls so it might be possible to fix the original if something is broken.

I really  wanted to put the OEM airbox back on it. This model carb was really short...66mm from front to back. most I've found are about 88 mm and  they  too long.

      Thanks
