Rear Winker lens color - amber vs red was created by johnste1960

I am a little confused as to the lens color on the rear  winkers.   Leaning toward that they were red.  Basically  I see some for sale hear and there and some parts lists seem to show a red lens.

However,  when I look at period correct sales literature and other brochures,   it shows these bikes with amber lens for the rear winkers.

Can someone explain what the correct color is on these bikes from the factory?

If all you can find is amber and want/need red, someone on ebay sells the red lens covers...a decent reproduction, I mean.

I seem to remember that at least up to 1973, the rear turn signals were red.  This picture is of a 1971 CT1 USA model.

It depends on what particular market you are concerned with .
Here in Australia and New Zealand , rear lenses were orange ,
but in US , at least in early to mid 70's , they were red .
I have checked brochures from both markets , and the brochure
matches the relative market spec .
The brochures you have been seeing may not be US market brochures .
The lenses between the markets do vary slightly too .
Orange US market lenses have a different part number to Aus orange lenses .
I haven't compared them side by side , but possibly a subtle difference in depth .
I have an RT2 in the garage that I need to change lenses over ONE of THESE DAYS .

You can get genuine ones in the UK from Fowlers of Bristol, and CMNSL in Holland at about £4 each. That will then be subject to a dose of daylight robbery for postage and VAT from CMSNL  , Fowlers are that but the postage is a couple of quid. That's if you are in the UK

Here in the U.S,
I have always gone with the red in the rear of the bike, Amber in the front. Like most cars running around .

Thank you,  THis is the answer I was thinking.   I was guessing that it might have to do with location.

If you ever want to convert your amber yellow lens to a red lense it is easily done by painting the inside of the amber lenses with a very light coat of Testers Translucent Red model paint in a small spray can available at any hobby store. I did it the rear signals on a Virago 1100 and you would never guess they were amber lenses.
