I've had good luck with Clauss boots www.claussstudios.com/store/p598/Yamaha_..._Air_Boot_Joint.html

KDI probably makes them too.

What I'd like is to know everyone's tricks and tips for getting the carb and boot back on there...in less than half an hour. It comes off OK for me, but it always takes me a long time to get it back on/in there correctly.

Mine had stiffened up over the 5 years it was apart. Otherwise it was ok. So I dipped it in boiling water for a second and it became pliable again. Its fine now when I have to pull the carb. I think it’s the original from 74. Ymmv.

I kind of skipped over the 72-73...  probably mostly because I have PTSD from when I was a kid from the flip-top gas cap of that era...  and I'm partial to piston port.

Anyway, if I remember correctly on those I'd install the carb in the air box boot and then bolt the flange to the manifold...  always seemed infinitely easier than the later models with a spigot carb and a rubber manifold at the reed valve.

Can someone tell me the fuel/air mixture screw setting on this bike? Also this bike was stripped when I bought it and its rough and is only gonna be a beater/trail bike so speed isnt an issue as much as low end.  What sprocket combo would you suggest?  I think factory is 15/45

Air screw: start 1 and 1/2 turns out from gently bottoming of the screw.
I have a CT-2, and I've not changed the sprockets at all. I'd tune it and run it a while before you do anything. First is like a granny gear, really; you could use it on the road like a four speed, starting out in second...almost. But I have heard some throw at 49 on the back if they are riding more in the dirt than on the road. Best performance improvements for mine were a sleeper pipe from the SoCal buds, dtmeis and DVM, and running it slightly on the rich side at my elevation, 5,000-6,000 feet. Search sleeper pipe, and there will be information and a way to contact them.

I had the same problem on this and what worked for me was a bit of heat gun to soften it up a bit and make it more workable.  Have to work fast before it hardens up again.  Good luck....
